Luton Daily is an independent news and information site for Luton. We cover the borough: the town centre and High Town, Leagrave, Limbury, Bramingham, Sundon Park, Marsh Farm, Lewsey Farm, Biscot, Stopsley, Round Green, Farley Hill, Warden Hill and Wigmore, along with London Luton Airport, which sits inside the borough and is owned by the council. We report what the public record shows and keep the everyday local information accurate.

The council, and the boundary

Luton Borough Council is a unitary authority. It is not a district of Bedfordshire, and it runs every local service in the borough itself, so when we write about bins, parking, council tax or planning, that is the council we mean. Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Barton-le-Clay run into Luton on the map and share its buses, shops and jobs, but they belong to Central Bedfordshire Council. When a story comes from there, we say Central Bedfordshire rather than blurring the two together.

How we work

We report from primary sources: the borough’s planning register at planning.luton.gov.uk, Luton Borough Council’s own news page and committee papers, police.uk crime data supplied by Bedfordshire Police, the Food Standards Agency hygiene register, The Gazette, Companies House and the Land Registry. Every fact links back to the source so you can check it yourself. Where a record is ambiguous, we say so. We use British English and plain language.

One local check is worth spelling out. The County Court at Luton hears insolvency cases from across a wide stretch of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, so a notice naming the court is not automatically a Luton story. We read the address on the notice before we write anything up.
